Congresswoman Stacey E Plaskett released the following statement on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

"Today the United States and the world has lost a tremendous jurist and leader - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Words are hard to find to express what the Supreme Court, the legal field and what humanity has lost. The fragility of our democracy is demonstrated as we held our collective breath praying for the continued health and longevity of our 87-year fighter, who fought until her last breath. Justice Ginsburg once said, "Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.' How profound.

"She has been an American hero, in every sense. We can honor her by carrying on her legacy of equality, empathy, and justice. Ruth Bader Ginsburg lived an extraordinary life. She fought to ensure equal protection in our laws, fearlessly dissented and defended, and was a powerful role model for us all. Our prayers are with her family during this time. And let us continue to pray and fight for our country."
